Alan Jay Palmer, AKA BAP, teaches the truth. It is a privilege to study with him and be a part of the United Institute of Music Science & Arts community _ Leigh Meador

"I’ve been very fortunate to have been under the tutelage of Professor Palmer at the Hartt School of Music and at the Artist Collective as a college student. It was inspirational being around a world class musician that was working with the top names in jazz. Just being able to see him play with Jackie McLean, Roy Hargrove and others greats gave him the utmost respect in the classroom. Alan has always had a swagger about him that made his rehearsals and his teaching full of energy and fun. He has a passion for passing on the language of jazz to the next generation and I know his teaching will help the future of this music."

Alan Palmer was an important instructor and mentor to myself and

many world renowned jazz artists. His unique and holistic approach to teaching is
the fruit of real, life bandstand experience and a vital connection to some of jazz's
greatest masters _Kris Allen, Lyell B.Clay Artist-in Residence in Jazz, Williams College
I've known and worked with Alan Palmer aka BAP (Bad Alan Palmer) The Fine Tuner for many years.
We both studied under world renowned alto saxophonist and educator Dr. Jackie McLean and worked in his band.
My experience with Alan is that he is a great pianist, musician, educator, composer and arranger. I was once his assistant conductor and learned a lot from him while he was the conductor of the Lela Wallace Readers Digest Artists Collective Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Artist Collective, Inc. where he also taught as a piano instructor.
He also taught in Dr. McLean's African American Music Program now called the Dr. Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford as the Piano, Ensemble and African American Music History Professor
Alan's ability to teach and perform as a pianist sparks an eagerness in his students to aspire to become great musicians themselves and his legacy is evident in his many students
